Experience Clear Vision Without Glasses or Contacts

Many of us dream of waking up without the need to reach for glasses or insert contact lenses. The first step towards freedom from glasses and contact lenses is a laser eye surgery consultation.

During this consultation, our optometrists will thoroughly explain this refractive error surgery procedure and assess whether you are a good candidate. Want to know more? Book an appointment with our qualified team today.

Our Consultation Process

Our consultation starts with a comprehensive eye exam. We will test your visual acuity and determine your overall eye health. This is important because certain eye conditions or diseases can affect your candidacy.

We will be sure to discuss your goals and expectations around laser eye surgery. An in-depth conversation around the process, healing time, and potential complications will all be addressed.

Laser Surgery Types

The most common types of laser eye surgery are LASIK and PRK. Other methods of laser eye surgery are usually only recommended if LASIK or PRK is not an appropriate option.

LASIK (laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis) is the most popular form of laser eye surgery and can be used to correct mild to moderate nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), and astigmatism.

During the surgery, a flap is made in the cornea’s outermost layer, then a laser is used to reshape the cornea to its desired correction, and the flap is replaced. Because this corneal layer is preserved and replaced, LASIK generally has a quicker recovery time.

PRK or photorefractive keratectomy is similar to LASIK, except the outer layer is removed altogether, instead of cut away and then put back in place.

Once this outer layer of the cornea is removed, the cornea is reshaped with a laser according to your prescription. The corneal layer then grows back within a few days.

PRK is generally a better solution over LASIK for patients with thin corneas. However, because the outermost corneal layer must grow back, it takes longer for the eye to heal.
