Emergency First Aid

Do not attempt to remove an embedded object from your eye. You may gently bandage your eye, but you need to contact our office or proceed to your nearest emergency room for treatment as soon as possible. If you do choose to bandage, take care not to push the object further into your eye or move it around, since this could cause further damage.

Flush your eye with cool, clean water for at least 10 to 15 minutes. Even if your eye feels better after this eyewash, make sure you contact our office or proceed to an emergency room to have your eye examined.

Corneal burns can be caused by ultraviolet radiation, sunlamps or getting too close to an open fire or heat source. Similar to a sunburn on the surface of the eye, corneal burns can vary in severity but are generally followed by blurry vision, burning sensation, spots of light, and eye pain.

To prevent a corneal burn from happening, always wear sunglasses outside and wear protective eyewear whenever necessary.

Never put drops, ointments, or other medications in your eye when experiencing a corneal burn. Instead, call your nearest Eye Care Group location or proceed to your nearest emergency room.
